Broadcast live on AM 1270 , NewsTalk1270.com & TuneIn Radio Apps Held in partnership with Advance Adairsville, this is the second debate in the series. This election will impact everyone in Bartow County, make sure you are informed of each candidate’s views.
According to Fayette County Commissioner, Steve Brown who has studied the subject;
1. 52% of the T-SPLOST funds will be going to build new mass transit rail systems and to bail out MARTA, not to build roads. There are three problems with mass transit;
a. Only 5% of the population uses it now and ridership is
going down.
b. Using MARTA as an example; it is 80% subsidized by
the taxpayer and is deeply in debt.
c. Increasing MARTA or building a MARTA like system
will just create more debt for taxpayers by expanding a
failed program.
2. The dirty little secret of the T-SPLOST is that the present T-SPLOST only provides for part of the funds to complete some of the projects listed. What happens when;
a. The projects are half finished and there is no money left?
b. When, like most government projects, they run way
over budget? (does the “big dig” in Boston come to mind?)
3. The T-SPLOST does not cover the very expensive cost of maintaining these systems year in and year out-where will that money come from?
4. When asked about items 3 & 4 above, TIA and local officials who support the T-SPLOST do not have an answer….shouldn’t they know that before they support this?
5. Too much of the money goes to projects that will do little or nothing to alleviate traffic congestion. Billions are going to economic development projects that have nothing to do with traffic congestion.
6. Proponents claim it will take cars off the road but can not tell you how many cars.
7. Proponents also claim that this will be a one time, 10 year tax, yet some projects are not scheduled to begin construction until 2040. How does that work? And let’s not forget the one time tax on 400 that has just been renewed
8. The Regional Transit Authority created by voting for the T-SPLOST will neutralize local government officials in favor of regional government where no one will be accountable. Also, we will be like the European Union, where responsible counties will have to pay to be bail out irresponsible counties.
9. There is no hurry to pass this. If voted down by a region the TIA legislation provides for another vote in 2 years.
10. Every special interest in Georgia is backing the T-SPLOST, which is nothing more than A BAIL-OUT OF ATLANTA AND MARTA. VOTE NO ON THE T-SPLOST JULY 31.
1. Inform yourself by reading Steve Browns power point (attached) and going to;TrafficTruth.net
2. Forward this on to everyone on your lists
3. Print this out and show it to your friends and neighbors
4. Contact your representatives, send them Steve’s power point and tell them you are against the T-SPLOST and Regional Government, where no one will be accountable. In Cherokee County , our chairman is already on record saying don’t blame him, our legislators voted for the T-SPLOST.
5. Write a letter to the editor and call talk radio.
